Yes, I've decided to go here xD This was a thought that was recently on my mind. Why is it that some cosplays are overdone? Plus, which ones do you feel are overdone. Is it because the costumes are easy to buy offline? Are the characters really as colourful and interesting as they're made out to be? Just a thought :3

I do agree Death Note is very overdone, and I can't call a Naruto cosplayer a Naruto cosplayer until they actual make an effort with their outfit. Which seems hard to stumble across at actual events

Death note, bleach and Naruto whilst being extremley popular and pretty good anime's are completley over-rated. The cosplay outfit's are really boring and I think anime's like Shuffle! and Ouran HSHC definatley deserve a lot more attention from cosplayer's. Chobit's is also quite an under-rated series.

Definately certain characters from:
Death Note (Mostly L and Misa)
Naruto (Mostly Team 7, Gaara and maybe a couple of others) - IRUKA-SENSEI NEEDS MORE LOVE! XD
Bleach (I only really know of Ichigo)

There are also a lot of Pokémon cosplayers, but Pokémon Gijinka cosplay gives people an opportunity to be creative - AND select from hundreds of different Pokémon! Some of the trainers such as Misty are overdone though.

XD I definatly agree with how many Final Fantasy cosplays there are, and the list only gets bigger when more games come out. I'm guilty of doing a Final Fantasy cosplay, but I take pride that i'm one of the few Eiko cosplayers in the UK XD

Whenever I go to cons I see hoards of Roxas cosplayers - Mainly Twilight Town ones.
Kingdom Hearts is on the rise of popularity umong cosplay ><;
You also ALWAYS see tonnes of Naruto, Bleach and FF.
Also you tend to see 'Movie version Misa'. That one is prolly a pet peeve of mine actuly.. I wont get into it 'cause I'll end up ranting about it xD
I have a really strong feeling that October London expo is gunna get flooded with KH cosplayers - Birth By Sleep and Halloween Towns. *Sigh*

I agree with the whole Death Note thing. I don't considder Death Note cosplays 'real' cosplays because it requires almost no effort to make a DN cosplay. I can make an except for SOME varients of Misa such as, (God I can't remember the name of them now) Crazy person coat and cover of volume four I think it is, where she has the blades on her arm.

well i think most deathnote cosplays happen to be back ups for a lot of people, and unless your cospalying a god from death note, your not cosplaying
SASUKE is over done as is roxas and cloud, i was like WTH?? but hey, the way i see it if u wanna over do it, have fun :P

There is a lot of overdone cosplay, but I think it's bad if people put a stigma on it. I hate the whole "You can't cosplay them cos they're MY character" thing that so many cosplayers seem to have going on...

After all, if you like a character and their costume, cosplay them! So if an awesome character with a fun costume from a popular series is over done, it's completely understandable. I don't see why people should feel bad for cosplaying an "over done" character, especially if they're fairly new to cosplay.

Commented on this before but something just sprung to mind,
If an 'overdone cosplay' is done so that it stands out above the rest.. Urm.. For example,
Roxas - You find alot of people doing the wigs flat or whatever, but if you see one thats been rewefted, spiked and theres obviously alot of work, time and effort gone into it, it eliminates the fact that its an overdone cosplay..
I can't really type what I mean x__x
"If a cosplay is overdone, but you see it done well, it doesn't matter?"
I think alot of overdone cosplays often seem half-hearted if you get me?
I've confused myself ><;

I'd probably go with Death Note if I considered it as a real cosplay. I've cosplayed Mikami and I didn't feel all that amazed with what I had done for it. I made Misa's Deathnote which was kinda easy but I didn't feel like I was really cosplaying.

I'd say the most overdone cosplay would be Goku from Dragon Ball Z. You can't go to a convention without seeing somebody cosplaying Goku.

Also, there are a lot of Yoko cosplayers emerging as of late. One Yoko was interviewed by the entertainment branch of the BBC at the last MCM London, and she said she did it 'for the attention'.

Pretty dumb.

Yeah, that was a really dumb thing to say.
Thats gives people the impression that cosplayers are attention seekers. Thanks Yoko cosplayer, thanks alot.

The generic Naruto characters (kakashi, sasuke, naruto, sakura, itachi, etc.) are extremely overdone. Also I agree with L, Light, Misa costumes being overdone too. I believe the reasoning behind the naruto costumes showing up so much is due to the fact of the series being so popular, playing perfectly to the average cosplayer to portray the one they feel suits their own personality or ambition best. L and Light cosplayers are appearing so much do to the fact that it is just a basic costume. Pretty much every day clothing and nothing more. I feel that the truth to a cosplay is by taking the role of the character into account by not only wearing their clothing, but for the more passionate person, even taking on their personailty and traits. As if they have just become that character.

For instance, though I rarely cosplay, close friends of mine know that is the type of thing I aspire to do. Once I wear that character's costume, I will try to be that person for the sake of fun and to show fans of that character what it would be like to meet said person in reality.

woah... went into a bit of a rant there hehe... get some more resident evil cosplays people!
